Think I might be in line for Experimenting with 30day no Caffeine/Coffee Reverse Binge ... who's with me?
Oh yeah and killing Liver + Beets for the O2 carrying ... Carrots for Color
Stuffed Pepper ... fast lunch (avocado/turkey breast/mustard)
Big day fuel - 3 eggs, couple table spoons of GF pancake mix (i can make a package last a long time!), some nut butter, some coconut milk, cinnamon, banana, bit of peeled potato
* challenge for folks to look into best pancake without a mix, thinking potato + right mix of spices + 3 eggs + banana + maybe baking powder or soda ? ... the latter might require flour ... my food chemistry is not there yet!
Oh and Kabush referenced some tasty bars we make in Cali during big days
This Ride Sponsored by One size fits all gloves found in my Glove box ... ride would have been basically impossible without gloves ... or some sort of Belgian ointment
Day 13 I think of PLPOTPB ... AM Rock Lifting Heavy 5x5 PM-90min mad skillz or steez at cliffs
Also thanks to a local for supporting the Peter eating grass fed red meat initiative ... Happy trails and motobike roads to you sir !
Cliffs leaf blown? Much better then Dufferin Logging ... Still crying
Quote of Day
- "People tend to forget that to stay focused on your mission you need to cut out the bullsh*t [...] it's really easy to achieve a dream if you just stay focused [...] the bigger the dream the more you're going have to grind for it [...] just gotta have extreme patience [...] " Cudi from Kid Cudi / Green Lantern - How to make it in America Album / Song = Intro
Turnip, Collards, Hidden Rib Steak, Red Onion Cover and Done in 20ish (flip half way)
Today's ride sponsored by My brother Dave ... who saved me from my first ever double flat in Mansfield and a nice walk/ruined rim for the 10km home. Day 11 of PLPOTPB in the books as 3hrs with some tempo finish off road and gravel hilly, working the low RPM around a bit.
Dave's Mobile support got me 2 new tubes and a floor pump to finish off the ride strong .
Basically Tonya Harding, the CEO, ran interference while the bash bros replaced my quick link with a faulty quick link = broken chain.
I repaired this with the help of AWI member J.Simmons ... who was torn between Trek Store support and AWI ('the darkside')
Once rolling again the Bash Brothers (jacob / Tristan) Sandwiched me and ran me derailleur side down into one of the many stumps hiding near trail in the otherwise well groomed Copeland/SugarBush/oro Area.
With a blown shift cable The 'H' screw got turned up to 11 and a two speed was born and supported the rest of the ride. Definitely a Tech Tuesdays day on the trail, was nervous with Ms. Tammy in the crowd too waiting for me to cry and
Otherwise a great ride awesome trails, conversation and some riding.
Fueled by Bacon, Sweet Potato and Collards + avocado
Quote of day:
Me - Can we go ?
Watson- Oh, you want to continue riding? I'm not wearing a heart rate monitor.
Me- Hmm, ya so you couldn't tell we were stopped ?
Karela ... new food to try to conquer in the kitchen. Randomly seems to be in the news and benefits diabetes with its 'plant insulin' . I found them at the local No Frills, so keep your eyes open!
Apparently great in Curry dishes to balance the bitterness, I didn't find them in my normal meat/veggie 'slow' fry with no sauce just oils/pepper/salt.
Day 8 of PLPOTPB - Violet Hill to Tottenham to Cheltingham to Dixie-Eglington Starbucks (I most certainly did not double dip on the 2 for 1 Holiday Lattes ... or did I ?) . Long day , blizzards, sun, some nice bike path linking with only the last 15ish min on busy streets. I would have loved to link this on a few more paths over to the Don or path down the Humber to lake shore ... big rides in the relative tropics of the GTA to be done over next few weeks for sure. Anyone with good path/route knowledge welcome (as long as you are on a 30lb + Bike and are pro looking)
Day 9 PLPOTPB - Long with Tempo on old school MTB MAN loop, legends made on these trails ... around 3hrs I popped nice climbing a sandy shoot in Anderson Tract. Some good hike-a-bike and good sensations on Tempo and offroad riding (before the pop). It was windy but that means good mtb riding.
Learning:
- The App is dead ... Web based apps to replace them ASAP as HTML5 becomes prevalent (reported a few blogs back on Adobe giving up the good fight on Flash vs. HTML5). As I understand it, moving to a web app should allow for more platforms to interact and cheaper development costs. http://www.thestar.com/business/article/1089184--no-app-for-that-no-apps-period?bn=1
- I Said it to start off ... WIND Mobile was a mistake in Canada and Goverment regulations are still not even close ... Link
- Get your cheap, albeit sub par tablet for cheap = Best Buy, Future Shop, Sears, The Source and Wal-Mart are among the stores slashing prices of RIM tablets. At $300 off, the cheapest 16-gigabyte model is about $200. The 32GB PlayBook is $300 and the 64GB model is $400. Link
Ripping around the Cliffs in the PM, gets dark early and Day 8 plpoTpb, rolling along well with a few bigger days coming up next.
Learning: (watson has to stop stealing my formats)
- http://features.peta.org/mario-kills-tanooki/ PETA is an interesting organization ... Apparently Super Mario is a threat to animal safety. His Racoon Suit (Tanooki) is apprently modeled after a 'racoon dog' that is skinned alive for it's fur.
Recently I linked to this post and enjoyed it The Grandmaster in the Corner Office:, it looks at the best Chess players and how they reach the pinnacle
"Similar findings have been replicated in a variety of fields. To become exceptional you have to put in a lot of hours, but of equal importance, these hours have to be dedicated to the right type of work. A decade of serious chess playing will earn you an intermediate tournament ranking. But a decade of serious study of chess games can make you a grandmaster."
This is similar to some of Malcom Gladwell's work and National Coach Dan Proulx has alerted me in the past to the concept and studies of 'Deliberate Practice' (which is referenced in the article). Basically the best results are thought to come from practice that is repeated frequently, has feedback, is goal driven and that is not inherently enjoyable.
Definitely inspiring as things get back into the nitty gritty of training/pushing boundaries and decisions are made on where to invest time.
PLPOTPB11 Continues with lots of wood going in the Shed and recovery spin Monday. Tuesday brought my new favorite ... the Triple Day , that's right 3 workouts ... 1 day. Some Crazy guy told me it was the key to winning Rowing World Champs ... so been tinkering.
Why can't coffee shops sell bone broth ? If I could get that I would never want Coffee!
Oh apparently tims lattes are brutal described as sugary and similar to hockey arena machine hot chocolate
Wood shed filling with pull
Wood shed filling w. push
Dirtbiking - fun but scary at same time ... Back to bikes
Pro looking people on Thirty Pound Bicycles Day 6 - Long road ride (on mtb of course)
= Violet Hill to Espresso Post Collingwood . ~100km 3.5hrs . Post ride Americano and GF cookie (GF is not an excuse ... ) and Family Gathering made for good day. Like AWI camp I am quite thankful for the weather as week 1 or 4 of PLPoTPB was pretty effortless.
Here’s a remarkable, and inescapable fact: By Forbes’ estimate, products developed by the late Steve Jobs have generated sales of $360 billion in today’s dollars.
Obviously, Apple... (more)
So Experiment done ... last bullets have been fired. In the 3-4 months post Leadville 100 I have gone from strictly wanting to ride 1hr or less and now I am back in the long ride territory. Last few months have been filled with learning on and off the bike thanks to Cross racing with a few fast dudes and dudettes.
So Nationals started in classic style from back row ... frustrating but still not popping hard enough off the line to get to cocky. Moved up attacking the long climbs (long when you start on the flats standing) ... quite a good cross course in my opinion , which may not mean much in terms of cross course quality. Finished 11th just outside of points (who wants points anyhow?). With the skill/experience of the top 10 I was pretty happy with 3min down and 1st in the Battle of the Peter's ... although Mogg likely ripped me apart from the masters race. Next year watch out.
Props to Jstaff ... if you do the math Mustache McNeely might have given Sheppard a run ?
Props to Mark Batty on awesome race, great interview demonstrating how to wear a hat & glasses properly in an interview and some good tactics tips.
At the risk of forgetting someone out of the awesome crowd ... Props and/or thanks for cheers/jeers/tips/equipment offers etc. to MotoBob, Holmeslandscaping, kSpar, Ms. Sin, Kglad, Ms. Smith, Ugly heckling dudes from out west (paleo Hunters), Havi, Tsims, TayNeezy, Trek Toronto, Battys x 4, that nice couple from London, and for dinner Ferguson x 4 made superb meal with options on the pasta or spaghetti squash ( much appreciated )
Special thanks to Andrew 'Tonya Harding' Watson for a sprained ankle and then invite to ride Sunday at a ride he didn't attend ...
Quotes that were enjoyable:
- Paleo Hunters = "Are you going to let him beat you he doesn't drink beer!"
= "Ride faster , Gluten is chasing you"
- Andrew 'Tonya Harding'Watson - in response to being called Nancy Kerrigan
" I think you mean Tonya Harding?"
Back to the drawing board ...
I’ve become a big believer in the idea that you should work to make your strengths as strong as possible so that they overshadow your weaknesses and eventually overtake them. Lock explains this idea very eloquently.
“Build upon strengths, and weaknesses will gradually take care of themselves.” – Joyce Lock
On the go lunch, Paleo on the road is not hard. ( hard boiled eggs + roast beef ( hormel's natural / gluten free for what it is worth) , carrots and grapefruit
Easy stir fry . Really loving kale right now
Mark batty + duty free = new bottle of scotch for my collection ... Hoping to enjoy celebrations with Holmes landscaping and some fresh venison soon !
Joy ride building a beginner jump line ... You HAVE to go their this fall/winter and take care of those skills
